Melilla: The Door to Africa

Walls Centennial, While strolling through the streets of the city, bustling and noisy, could not help associating everything I saw with the comments that years ago I had made my father and I suddenly realized I was in front of the beautiful century-old walls its Citadel. There my father spent many Sunday afternoons with his friends.

When I finished shopping I decided that would be a good time to approach the hotel to leave all packages carried. I could not resist the temptation to visit some synagogues and temples in the city before the end of the day. I loved the synagogues. I’ve never seen any and Melilla are neither more nor less than ten. The one I liked was the Zoruah Or. But also enjoy the visit to the Sacred Heart Church, neo-Romanesque style and I was fascinated with the Indian Oratory.

Mount Gurugú When I finished this trip I went to Mount Gurugu. From there you can see all the splendor and beauty of the city that has preserved the important legacies that Phoenicians, Romans, Vandals, Byzantines and Arabs left in the city. In addition to the 900 Modernist and Art Deco buildings. He started the evening was going to be the prelude to a wonderful night in Melilla.

The day-night If Melilla is beautiful at night becomes a constant contrast of colored lights. In the summertime, when I went, the city offers fun for all ages. From nightclubs in which to dance until late at night, local salsa and varied rhythms, and even in the quietest rooms to enjoy the warm August nights.

Together we walked back to the hotel thinking of the sea and started humming the famous theme of jazz singer George Beson, The Sea. The day had been intense the, smells, tastes, and memories. Those memories had mixed with my experiences and now I had enough baggage to transfer you to my father all the emotions and the feelings I had. Now the challenge would be persuaded to spend some days together in this fascinating city.

Visit the Cathedral of Valencia

Valencia Cathedral

Walking the streets of Valencia, surely you will spend in front of his temple: the Cathedral and today we visit.

While it can not be considered of the most beautiful in Spain, where there are many excellent examples of religious architecture, the Cathedral of Valencia deserves attention by the amalgam of styles that have shaped through the centuries and its greatest treasure which is said to be the “Holy Grail”.

This temple is built on a mosque which, in turn, occupied the space of a Visigoth cathedral. Today only remains of the two. In the thirteenth century, James I the Conqueror decided to build temple in honor of Santa Maria funded by the bourgeoisie of the city of Valencia.

As he was demolishing a Muslim, grew a classic building with three naves, dome of the transept, ambulatory, and apse. The legend says that King broke down the last walls of the mosque with their own hands, using a mallet.

The Valencian usually refer to the long construction of the cathedral (or pseudo) with a popular saying: “That is longer than the works of the seu. And this is seen in the different styles that were translating: medieval structure, one of the covers of the cruise is Romanesque and the other is Gothic.

Interior Catedral de Valencia

In the latter, the Door of the Apostles, traditionally meets the Water Court to adjudicate the disputes on the issue of farmers irrigate their fields.

The old Chapter House, now called the Chapel of the Holy Grail because it is kept a cup of agate of the century that some would identify with the Holy Grail. This hall and belfry Miguelete or New, used as a lighthouse at one time, were exempt from the building and did not join him until 1459.

Undoubtedly, a sampling of styles that is not without its charm. Surely the figure of the Cathedral of Valencia and you’ll notice is one more reason to chill out on the most traditional streets of the city.

Seville: Andalusian Capital Also Came the Padlocks of Love

The bridge of Triana, in Seville, such as the Ponte Milvio in Rome? It seems, judging from its rails, full of padlocks, as told by the Spanish newspaper 20 Minutes Free Press.

For some time, this romantic symbol of the XXI century has become, in fact, fashion in the capital ispalense. Were in fact just the Italian students arrived in Seville to spend your Erasmus to spread the tradition. And ‘so, then that is enough to pass by the bridge of Isabel II, the Guadalquivir River, which joins the center of Seville and Triana, the neighborhood of flamenco, to see at least a dozen padlocks attached to its railing.

You say? Will happen like in Italy? Suspend the proceedings. I limit myself only to point out that, although it is very easy to attribute the custom to tam-tam media caused by Moccia’s book, translated in Spain, the tradition of using the locks to seal a love that is far more widespread.
