The Sphinx. This sculpture, which depicts a lion with a human face (is believed to represent the pharaoh Khafra, at least, wears on his head the typical klaft, mantle worn by the pharaohs) is contemporaneous with the pyramids, is 70 meters long and 20 high. To build it, took a mound of limestone on the plains, who carved and filled with stone blocks. When I had a thousand year old Pharaoh Tuthmosis IV between his legs made carve a scene depicting a dream in which the Sphinx gave him the throne in return for saving her to die buried under the desert sand.

More than a thousand years later, in Roman times, a shrine was excavated within the Sphinx. And when the Sphinx and more than four thousand years after these changes came to be destructive rather than constructive: the first iconoclasts, and the Mamluks then mutilated the monuments, damaging his tearing eyes and nose. Here we see a first example, although unfortunately not the last, which shows that among the capabilities of man is not only to build wonders, but also destroy them.

The voice of the Sphinx was for millennia his profile as fascinating as mysterious .- For many, the impassive face and wise smile came to embarrass the lost wisdom of the ancient world. His intriguing structure appears to have been built with stone from the quarry exhausted almost used to the pyramids of Giza. Around 2700 BC C.

The stonemasons cut the best and most solid rocks to the Great Pyramid and then transformed these remains masons in the Great Sphinx, sculpting his large head with idealized features of Pharaoh Khafre, with full royal headdress .- Over the centuries , sand storms threatened to swallow the Sphinx, resulting in one of his most enduring legends about 1400 a. AD, when the Sphinx was buried up to his neck, a prince who was hunting stopped to rest in its shadow and fell fast asleep. In dreams he heard the voice of the Sphinx promised to become ruler of Egypt. When he awoke, the prince suggested the word ity meet in dreams. He completed the task shortly after ascending the throne as Pharaoh Thutmoses

The Pyramids of Egypt are all vestiges bequeathed to us by the Egyptians of antiquity, the most prodigious and famous monuments of this civilization, and in particular, the three great pyramids of Giza, the tombs or cenotaphs of the pharaohs Khufu, Khafre Micerino, and whose construction dates back to the great majority of scholars, the period known as the Old Kingdom of Egypt. The Great Pyramid of Giza, built by Cheops (Khufu) is one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Background

The mastaba, almost prismatic construction, it was the burial of the kings of the Archaic period in Egypt. The reasons for the passage of the pyramids mastabas not well known, but generally mentions the desire to reach heights increasingly significant to express the importance and power of the deceased pharaoh.

Classical pyramids

This type of pyramid is the stage that leads, in the final stage of evolution, to the classic pyramids of smooth surfaces, of the Fourth Dynasty (c. 2500 BC), the most famous are the pyramids of Cheops, Chephren and Micerino, built on the plateau of Giza, near Cairo.
Other pharaohs of Dynasty IV began construction of their pyramids, as Djedefre (Abu-Rawash) and Neb-ka (Zawyet el-Aryaman) but remained unfinished. The last Pharaoh Shepseskaf, erected a monument as a large stone sarcophagus in Saqqara.
V Dynasty kings most complex erected pyramids at Saqqara and abuse, the smaller and technically inferior. Continued erecting at Saqqara Teti, Pepy I, Merenre Nemtyemsaf I and Pepi II, Dynasty VI.

The so-called First Intermediate Period of Egypt some rulers continued the tradition, as Neferkare Neby, Jui, Iti, or Meryk, but scarcely any remains.

It is in the Middle Kingdom (Dynasty XII, c. 1990 BC) when lifting the last major pyramids, but with cores of mud and stone cladding, now collapsed.

The New Kingdom pharaohs chose to build great temples and hypogea in the area of Thebes.
Pyramids smaller and more stylized stone, were erected by the dignitaries of the XXV Dynasty (c. 747 BC), in Napata and Meroe (Kush).

It can be effortless to plan a trip to the beach especially if it would take a couple of miles before you get there. Unfortunately, things can be a little stressful if you are planning to spend your holidays to Egypt.

Egypt is a land filled with vast opportunities to satisfy the explorer in you. The cost of going to this tourist destination is no doubt quite expensive compared to the amount that you have to pay for a trip to tourist spot within your city. That is why it is very essential that you plan carefully to make the most out of your money.

When planning for your Egypt holidays, it is advisable that you do it a couple of months prior to your desired schedule. The longer you have to wait, the cheaper will be the price. This does not only cover the air fare but also the expenses for your accommodation at the same time.

You should also take time to look for travel agencies that would give you the best package for your Egypt getaway. They can give you a set of pre-planned tour but you can also ask them to make a customized itinerary. Tell them your wants and special needs on your trip (if there are any) so they can fix the right tour that will also fit your budget as well.
