To the north of Italy , there is a charming tourist circuit is simply to turn a lake ‘s largest country. But being that Lake Garda is the largest, and is located in the mountain scenery in the Alps , the task of travel costs may be much larger than they believe.

The good news is definitely worth doing. The lake, with a 51.6 km long and 17.2 wide, is easily reached from Verona .The landscape is going to happen from a more mountainous north, and valley glaciers in the south, all of great beauty. The lake is so large that spans three regions: Trento , Brescia and Verona .

Undertake a journey around Lake Garda immerse us in a walk through the green region, elegant villas and centennial, the countryside, and above all, countless charming villages. The way to do that is the road Gardesana , a total of 150 kilometers. What recommendations would do with a break of one night to enjoy more relaxed place.

On the way we will encounter accidents of the landscape as peninsulas that go deep into the lake, cliffs, islands, and lookouts with stunning views. On the Scagliera Rocca , sits a gorgeous castle that is imposed, and best, for the past seven centuries.within its walls remains a town that takes us to another time, although tourists are reminded that in the XXI century.

The story in turn, blends with the landscape in Salo , home of the fascist government of Mussolini. The itinerary can be threading one town after another, and each will find centuries-old churches, cobblestone streets, history and lake views that change angle and always surprising: Limone Sul Garda , Malcesine , Riva di Garda are some of them.If it is not our driver, we have the option of using the ferry across the lake, connecting people to people. The tour anyway, is highly recommended.

Italy is one of the most advanced countries in the world. With its natural beauty, attracts many tourists from all over the world to go and spend some time in this beautiful country gifted by nature.

Before you can start planning to go to Italy on vacation, you must put in mind that this beautiful country is so expensive so far that can drain your bank account. However, no needs to worry because in this article, I would like a list of facilities that can help you go on holiday in Italy with a cheap price.

If you are outside the peak season between February and May plus September to January, you will have the best treat when you go to Italy.

current year, the number of tourists in Italy is less than the price for a very cheap accommodation services. It is believed that they were 40%, much lower than the peak season when the tourists a lot.

It would be better if you book in advance. The hotels will charge you less if you pay the cost of accommodation before you depart for a vacation.

The more you are in addition to the major cities of Italy, the higher the cost. If you decide to live near Rome, Milan or Naples, then the bag you have to spend good money would be wise if you choose an area far from downtown.

Area where you will live should be according to the place to be visited. Make sure that you will not spend too much in the form of daily transportation to get to that place.

Your budget will be simplified if you decide to cook your own food, rather than going to a restaurant that might turn out to be expensive.

Plaza San Marcos, for centuries, has been the historical symbol of Venice, unique in the world for its charm and destination for thousands of tourists. The square dates from the ninth century, when the Doge, who leaves Malamocco and moved to Rialto, decided that the plaza was the place to settle because here the main roads converged water.

At that time, the place was on an island that was called “Morso”, which passed batari River dividing it into two: on one side was the Basilica of San Marco and the Church of San Teodoro, on the other, Church of San Geminiano “and the extensive gardens of the convent of San Zaccaria”, while the Ducal Palace Square was separated by a channel.

Since its origin in the square have been held many activities in the city, from markets to stage shows, carnival processions and parades. In the twelfth century, by decision of the Doge Ziani Segastiano to celebrate a visit by Pope Alexander III and Emperor Barbarossa, the square was renovated: the Rio batari was buried around the Ducal Palace was built a square where the columns are lifted San Marcos and San Todaro, the patron saint of the city, the church of San Geminiano was demolished and rebuilt right on the other side and began to build the current “Procuratie Vecchie [Attorneys Viejas].

In the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, it changed the Ducal Palace and the Basilica to comply with the new taste of the Gothic style, was built Clock Tower and Old Procurators were modified. In the sixteenth century, and then Scamozzi built Sansovino Library, the “Loggetta” [the auction] and the Attorney News, to give even more prestige to the city. Coffee shops, first opened in 1683, have contributed to the place even more special. The Florian, Quadri, the Lavena eighteenth century are cafes that remain open, where tourists can try a coffee in the Plaza de San Marcos.

Another peculiarity of the square are … pigeons. There are several theories to explain why his presence might come from the pigeons that he donated to the wife of the Doge with the arrival of the army of Attila, or come from the pigeons that released to celebrate Easter. Although it is not known where they come from, the fact is that there are many and are an attraction for tourists. Remember that it is prohibited to sell food to the pigeons, to try to decrease the amount as they may be carriers of disease.

Near the lake, the lowest point of the city, the plaza is one of the first areas suffering high tide, on these occasions, you can cross through the plaza walkways they are mounted. The Basilica of San Marco, the Ducal Palace, the famous cafes and elegant shops make this place so special, so we must prepare to remain speechless.

The Grand Canal, which the Venetians call “Canalizzo” is the main street of Venice. It is 4 km and divides the city into two: the eastern part, which has three “sestiere” and the west, with three other “sestiere.” There are three bridges: degli Scalzi, Rialto and Accademia.

Rialto Bridge

Since Venice became a power, this channel has been the main route for transportation of the city, once was full of boats that went to Rialto. Today, however, sail “vaporetto”, gondolas and boats coming and going from one bank to another so that tourists can admire the beautiful palaces of the two banks. They were built over a period of about five hundred years and some are splendid examples of Venetian architecture that no one can miss if you visit this city.

In the past, races were held, parties and games, today, in September, organized by the Historical Regatta, a spectacular procession of historical boats with crews dressed in period costume. The best way to help see the Grand Canal by gondola or vaporetto, much cheaper, as many lines pass through here, but we recommend line 1, which is slow, it takes about 40 minutes, so that people can appreciate the many different churches and palaces.

Venice History

Although at the beginning of Christianity the lagoon and was populated by fishermen and hunters, the real Colonization V century, when the inhabitants of the land went to the islands to escape the barbarian invasions, first by the Huns and then of the Lombards. The confederation of the Laguna was not independent, but he owed loyalty to the Byzantine Empire, and the year 812 became one of its provinces. Constantinople to Venice privileges granted him because he was an important point for trade between East and West.

When Charlemagne and the Byzantine Emperor signed the Treaty of Aachen, the influence of Byzantium was greatly reduced, as evidenced by the fact that the Venetians 828 Alexandria robbed the body of St. Mark, who named the city’s patron, San Teodoro replacing. In 1000, the Doge got to stop pirate attacks many Slavs, and this victory was celebrated with the marriage between Venice and the Sea, to confirm his supremacy on the rise.

Venice’s power increased greatly through the Crusades, especially the fourth, in 1204, in which the Venetians used Christians as mercenaries to defeat Constantinople. After this victory, Venice secured control of trade and became one of the major powers of the time.

In 1453, Constantinople fell to the Turks and the Venetians lost many possessions. With the arrival of Columbus in 1492 and the new sea route to the Indies in 1500, Venice began to lose its monopoly of trade. In later centuries, the alliance between Spain and Portugal, the booming trade of Genoa and the losses to the Turks, further weakened the Venetian Republic, which still managed to maintain its independence until the arrival of Napoleon in 1797. Later, with the treaty of Campo Formio, Napoleon gave the city the Austro-Hungarian Empire and divided their possessions. Venice became part of the Kingdom of Italy after the third war of independence in 1866.

Venice: a city on the water

Venice from its origin, lives with water: the first inhabitants, to escape the incursions of the barbarians, took refuge in the lagoon, and, because of the marshy ground, were forced to build stilt houses to live. These stilts, little by little they became one of the most beautiful cities in the world, who lives around the water and whose main street is the Grand Canal, through which pass many boats each day going from one part to another the city, 446 bridges of stone, iron or wood connecting the streets and alleys of the city.

Water is the peculiarity of this city, but not always easy, because there is also the phenomenon of “acqua alta”, the high tide: the water covers the floor of Venice because of the currents and wind. This phenomenon is most common in the months from November to May. The first part is immersed Plaza San Marcos, which is the lowest point of the city, and the square is even more spectacular.

But however fascinating it may be, the frequency of this phenomenon is increasing every year and is damaging the foundations of houses and other buildings. In 1966, Venice was a great flood that paralyzed the city, as it was without power. Since then, there have been many projects to protect Venice and some have already been activated, but it will take years before completion.

The story of the theft of the body of San Marcos

San Marcos is the patron saint of Venice from the year 828, when two merchants, Buono da Malomocco Tribune Rustico da Torcello and stole the body of St. Mark’s tomb in Alexandria of Egypt and hid it in a load of pork to Muslims guards discovered him. When they arrived at Venice, it was donated to the doge. Placed the relic in the castle of the Doge Giustiniano Partecipazio and began immediately to build a sanctuary on the model of the Basilica of the Twelve Apostles in Constantinople, which was consecrated in 832.

Few museums, no scooter, no cars disturb the tranquility of this corner. It is located on the Ligurian coast between the towns of Levanto and La Spezia, and the five towns that make up are connected by a train, which runs through the steep slopes. This is a national park, highly protected, and out of mass tourism.

Unique and singular landscape of the Riviera

The Cinque Terre have been protected from the invasion of cars among other reasons because the rugged terrain. Layers of strata are spectacular near-vertical hills that stretch into the sea. It has been compared with the landscape of the Norwegian fjords, with the addition of purely Italian peoples and the human landscape.

The visitor is surprised by the nurseries in impossible places and the ingenious inhabitants to collect grapes and almost hung colored houses built on terraces carved into the rock for centuries and the Mediterranean in the background. But especially in view of the five people who appear before it slammed into small peninsula jutting into the sea. From north to south: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. Each has its history and unique charm.

The Plaza de San Marcos is located in the heart of Venice. It measures 180 meters long by 70 meters wide and is the only one piazza in Venice, since it is Piazzale rest or fields.

Its construction began in the ninth century by adopting the current size and shape in 1177, 100 years after being paved.

The Plaza de San Marcos is one of the most beautiful places in the world, Napoleon Bonaparte was defined as “the most beautiful room of Europe.”

The square is the lowest place in Venice so that, when there are “aqua high” is the first in flood. When this happens, the authorities placed gateways for transit of citizens and visitors. Depending on the time and, if we’re lucky (or unlucky, depends for whom), we see the square filled with water.
Points of Interest

The most important buildings of the square are St. Mark’s Basilica, Ducal Palace, Museo Correr, the Campanile (the bell tower of the basilica) and the Torre dell’Orologio.

In the upper balcony of the Clock Tower (Torre dell’Orologio), Renaissance style, two bronze Moors play hours. In Epiphany and Ascension leaves every hour a procession of Magi chaired by an angel.

Of note also the Columns of San Marco and San Teodoro by the entrance of the square on the Grand Canal. They were built of granite in 1172 and in that place of public executions were held.
The Basilica and Plaza de San Marcos, represent one of the most famous and photographed landscapes in the world, perhaps due in part to their great harmony and beautiful architecture.
For centuries, the Ducal Palace served three functions of vital importance in the political and social life of Venice. The place was used as a residence for the Duke, as the seat of city government and a courthouse. Precisely this was where the most important decisions that set the fate of Venice and Europe were taken by the most influential figures from different periods.

In fact, when the palace was built, had a design similar to a castle with towers and strong walls, as the location of a focal point for access to the sea. However, under time passed, and due to some accidents involving fires, the building was rebuilt and remodeled to what we know today.

Currently, the Ducal Palace is a museum open to the public that shows a variety of exhibits of great historical interest. Enter the palace is a good experience even for those who are not interested in history, as the grand design of the interiors of the palace more than a wonder.

The Bridge of Sighs

The visit also will cross the famous Bridge of Sighs that was built in Baroque style in the seventeenth century, gives access to the dungeons of the palace. The name of the bridge is given as the path that followed the death row because, from their windows, were last seen on the Laguna Veneta.

Curiously, in the Ducal Palace is also the Bocca di Leone, a kind of mailbox with lion face where once could expose the illegal practices of citizens.

Venice, the “city of canals”: One of those interesting places that highlight the beauty of the city is the Bridge of Sighs.

According to historical data on the website dumps ArteHistoria, this bridge was built in 1602 by Antonio Contino with the aim of linking courts and the prisons of the Ducal Palace with the building of new prisons. It was only in the nineteenth century by Lord Byron, which is building acquired its current name since for him, the prisoners on a bridge crossing sighed, knowing that losing freedom.

Years passed and today, Bridge of Sighs is one of the most preferred by tourists to take pictures when they travel to Venice. Is that its history, its construction and its location make it one of the most picturesque historic sites, intriguing, romantic and distinctive in Venice. What makes the search for cheap hotels in Venice near this bridge is virtually impossible at any time of year. It is a similar situation in London with regard to staying near Tower Bridge. It is also almost impossible to find cheap hotels as there many luxury hotels around these popular tourist locations. If you are traveling on a luxury travel budget, then London hotels here on Travel Intelligence are probably more for you.
If you have not visited, remember that you have two ways to access it: one is to know the inside advantage to visit the Ducal Palace and the other, perhaps the romantic alternative is to go under the bridge, gondola rides. Sounds interesting, right? To enhance the sentimental meaning attributed to the Bridge of Sighs, we recommend that this tour of Venice as you do in the company of your partner. You will see that being together in this city, the tourist attractions will become much more romantic and seductive.

And if you do enough with this bridge or want to compare with others in the same style, you can move to Cambridge, Oxford or Barranco (Lima, Peru), where there are other Bridge of Sighs.
