Tarragona, the Treasure of the Costa Dorada


A city full of rich history, marked by the Roman settlement that created the so-called Roman Tarraco, Tarragona have a special place. Washed by the warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea, Tarragona has become a tourist center and a cultural center to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Strolling through the city center should not be missed. The former case is at the top of the city and coincides with the former Provincial Forum of Tarraco. It is surrounded by the Roman wall, the length to the third century C. was about 4 km. However, at present remains only about 1 km and an original voussoired door. The Old Town, popularly known as “Part High”, is today one of the most popular areas for both tourists and natives through the gastronomic and leisure activities it offers.

Amphitheater of Tarraco
The Amphitheater of Roman Tarraco is a building constructed near the sea, behind the wall of the city of Tarraco, the capital of the Roman province of Nearer Spain Tarraconensis. It is one of the locations of the Place Heritage called “Archaeological Ensemble of Tarraco.

The Balcony of the Mediterranean
Delightful view! It is a viewpoint situated on a seaside cliff at the end of the Rambla Nova. It is bordered by an old wrought iron railing by Joan Miquel Guinart in the early twentieth century.
From here you can see part of the city, port, railway station, amphitheater, beach and La Punta del Miracle, plus a magnificent panoramic sea, on whose horizon on clear days, you can see the curvature of the land. The Punta del Miracle is also the stage where it is celebrated every year in July for six nights, the famous Castle International Competition of Tarragona Fireworks involving pyrotechnics important Spanish and foreign companies, and which has become benchmark event in the Mediterranean.

Roman Circus
Within the old city, today we find the archaeological remains of what was once the circus, featuring chariot races. Can be visited in different establishments in the city, as well as what is known as “capçalera”, the final curve of the trail. The “carceres” where was the exit, is under the foundations of the current municipality of Tarragona, in the “Plaça de la Font”.

La Fiesta de Santa Tecla
It is quite an event in Tarragona. Held in September, between 15 and 24, declared of national tourist interest by the Government of Spain and traditional festival of national interest by the Generalitat of Catalonia
