The Fair of St. Orso in Aosta

Artists and craftsmen from Val d’Aosta, who exhibit their creations, sculpture and carving wood, processing of soapstone, wrought iron and leather, weaving drap (wool cloth woven on ancient wooden looms), lace, wicker, household items, wooden ladders, barrels. In short, a great variety of typical products of creativity Aosta Valley.

In the Middle Ages, the Fair was held in the Town of Aosta, in the area surrounding the Collegiate named Sant’Orso. Legendary tales say that it all began right in front of the church where the saint, who lived before the ninth century, used to distribute clothes to the poor and Sabot, typical wooden shoes still lodged in the Fair. Days, the entire city center is involved in the event, within and alongside the Roman wall. The Fair is also folk music and the occasion for culinary and wine tasting of typical products. It ‘a celebration that lasts between songs and traditional dances, in the long VeillĂ  the night between 30 and 31 January with the streets lit and filled with people.
